Thoughts from Our Executive Director
As Homespace finished up 2012 there was a lot to be thankful for as well as excitement regarding the new community program! Beginning January 1st, 2013 Homespace began providing our services that we are known for within our two residential programs in the community in our YPREP program: Young Parent Resource and Empowerment Program. Lead by Kevin McGriff, Program Director a small team from Homespace including Estella Johnson, Case Manager, and Arica Rouse, Case Aide/Trainer will be working with 6-7 youth in the community that have been discharged from foster care to leave independently. The program is based on providing Support, Guidance, and Training to young parents (mother’s and father’s) age 14-21 within their own environment. Goals are to increase educational involvement, increase vocational trainings and/or employment, decrease subsequent traumatization and child abuse, and continue to assist young parents make the changes they wish to make for their children to have bright futures. We are thankful and excited to see the growth in this program over the next year and hope to assist many within the community.
Homespace holds onto our dreams and will be working hard to make them come to fruition into the new year! Again this holiday season the community generosity has been overwhelming. I’m always amazed that even in tough economic times the people within WNY give and continue to give to make others have a fruitful holiday season. This year we even had some new organizations provide us with donations for our families including those that have supported us throughout the years: Trinity Church, North Church, Gibson, McAskill, & Crosby, Mower & Assoc., St. Simon’s, Applied Sciences Group, Moog (who brought Santa, Pooh & Tiger too!), Home Depot, Mark Madden and Maddtiki Tattoo, HeadStone Heat (Valerie Meli), Buffalo Woman’s Services, Target, SEFCU, Rich Products, Empower Federal Credit Union and many individuals including Diana Tick (our faithful volunteer), Milania Lullo, (our dedicated tutor), Donna Meyers, and many many more. In addition we were so happy this year to connect with Mrs. Sarah Fitzpatrick and Ms. Siobhan O’Connor from the Williams Street School in Lancaster; they took on Homespace and made a huge class project of teaching the 5th graders to give back to those in need. It was amazing working with each and every one through the school. Please know that the generosity of others made many smile here at Homespace.
Best,
Kim Morris
