Thoughts from Our Executive Director
In thinking of what to write for this newsletter I thought it may be interesting to tell others what the staff think and feel about working and spending their time at Homespace to give you a picture of what others, besides myself, feel about this great agency. I sent out an email and was so pleased and amazed at the great feedback that we received from so many employees. One of our veteran employees shared “I love working at Homespace; it is not only a job it is what I am passionate about. Seeing the residents learn to trust us and look to us as family is so important to me. I believe that no matter what other goals they may achieve in their lives having this support and someone to always turn to is key!”. Another employee shared “It is a great place to work when I see the youth reach their goals and then strive to achieve more. Homespace is not only a caring, family oriented living environment, but it is a great opportunity for young mothers to gain skills needed to reach their own independence.” Finally a brand new employee to the agency shared that “It feels rewarding to work at a place that does good things for our community. Working here, at the end of the day you have always accomplished something or helped at last one person.” If that wasn’t enough we have the pleasure of working with the University of Buffalo School of Social Work and providing supervision and field placement for two (2) master level students per year. In asking them what their thoughts are I was again pleased to share that their feedback was positive including “Homespace is a great place to intern because you get a diverse learn-ing experience. Homespace does a great job of delivering services to the residents.” In addition another intern shared that she has “learned so much through her internship at Home-space and will carry this experience with me throughout my career.” As an agency that has been through so many changes in the past four (4) years the above makes me proud to lead a team of caring, thoughtful individuals that are here to focus on the families and to work dili-gently to assist each family in achieving their individual goals.
If the above wasn’t positive enough there have been several positive things going on here at the agency as a whole. Deacon Milania Lullo, who runs our H.O.P.E. Center, was nominated and has been awarded the Fr. Medaille Award for Service and Citizenship for 2012. Homespace couldn’t be prouder than to share all the work that Deacon Milania has done with and for Homespace. Our “thanks” will never capture the amount of work that she has done with and for the girls of Homespace. The H.O.P.E. Center has continued to grow and continues to be utilized by our girls more and more.
It’s my honor to run an agency that has so much positivity associated with it. I applaud each and every team member in all the work they do for the families of Homespace!
Best,
Kim Morris
